CELEBRATE 50 YEARS OF THIS ICONIC SWEDISH DESIGN
Created by Bruno Mathsson for DUX in 1969, the Jetson chair is an icon of Swedish furniture design.
As classic as his designs are, is the story of how Bruno sat down in a snowdrift to create the optimal shape for sitting furniture. Mathsson's starting point was always the shape of the body and the interaction between furniture and the human form. As he put it, furniture should be made with such art that sitting in them will not itself become art. After perfecting the Jetson chair over the course of three years, it was finally presented to fanfare in Stockholm in 1969.
The Jetson chair reflects both his obsession with comfort and a classic Swedish modern design approach. It features a bowl-shaped seat, ergonomically designed high back with head pillow, and chrome swivel base with a unique self-return mechanism. The oft-imitated Jetson design was named for the futuristic animated American television family.

THE FATHER OF SWEDISH MODERN
Bruno Mathsson was born in Varnamo, Sweden in 1907. It can be argued that no one has made a larger impact on Swedish furniture design than Mathsson. With designs that are a fusion of traditional Swedish crafts and Modernism, Mathsson was ultimately hailed as one of the pioneers of the style that later came to be known as Swedish Modern. During the 1960s he developed a unique building technique for wooden chairs in which the components were glued and bent under hot water. Little did he know this would become one of the hallmarks of Scandinavian furniture design.
Mathsson and DUX had a very close, creative partnership during the 60s and 70s. This collaboration resulted in a host of timeless design classics that DUX still produces - including The Jetson, Karin, and Pernilla chairs.
In celebration of this 50-year collaboration DUX is bringing The Jetson, Pernilla and Karin chairs in limited edition fabrics and leathers to the Scandinavian markets.
